What you can open
ShotEasy Viewer is designed for everyday office and file-preview tasks:

For archives, you can browse the folder tree, choose supported files inside the archive, preview them, or download extracted items. The Office renderer is best for modern Office Open XML files such as DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX. Older binary Office formats like DOC, XLS, and PPT are different file formats and are not the main target of this viewer.
No installation required
The biggest advantage is speed. You do not need to install Microsoft Office, LibreOffice, a PDF app, a CSV viewer, or an archive tool just to check one file.
This matters on shared computers, temporary work machines, customer support workflows, and quick review tasks where installing software is either inconvenient or not allowed.
Because ShotEasy runs in the browser, the workflow is familiar: drag a file into the page, wait for the preview, navigate pages or slides, and close the tab when you are done.
Local-first viewing
ShotEasy is designed around local browser processing whenever possible. Files are opened and rendered on your device instead of being sent to a remote document viewer by default.
That is especially useful for contracts, invoices, reports, internal spreadsheets, presentation drafts, and downloaded archive files. You can inspect the content without creating an unnecessary upload step.
Large files may still take time because your own browser and device are doing the work. The tradeoff is better privacy and less dependency on a server-side conversion queue.
How the Office preview works
For DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX, ShotEasy builds on the open-source office-open-xml-viewer project. The project focuses on viewing Office Open XML documents in the browser, with parsers written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly, and rendering through the Canvas 2D API.
This architecture is a good match for a web tool: the heavy document parsing logic can run inside the browser, while the preview stays interactive and lightweight for quick reading.
ShotEasy combines that Office preview flow with PDF, CSV, image, text, ZIP, and RAR viewing so you can use one page for many common file-checking tasks.
